This blog is for the instructors and students enrolled in the Boston University School of Management IS 714 Course to share and discuss emerging issues and posts relevant for our collective learning. Please feel free to drop in and contribute to the discussions--if you like. The course is officially closed but the blog is kept live (but it may not be updated as frequently).

Tree maps, like the one representing activity on Google News, seem an intriguing way for humans to quickly process dense information on several dimensions.
We could easily imagine search results returning more value to the searcher this way, with the relative size of the component regions representing the search frequency of links and the color indicating whether the frequency is increasing or decreasing.
We are in desperate needs of new ways of organizing information that are more in sync with the way our minds work. See "Discovering Business Intelligence Using Treemap Visualizations" for an overview of efforts.
